More than 30 get grant training in Promise Zone

APRIL 24, 2017  |  More than 30 people received grant training in classes last week in Bamberg and Yemassee to help give area leaders more confidence and tools to submit more applications for funding.  The classes, taught by South Carolina native Patrick Patterson of Global Partners for Fathers & Families, were funded through a technical training grant to the Center for a Better South by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In the months ahead, the Center for a Better South plans to have more classes to teach nonprofit and entrepreneurial skills to people who live and work in the Promise Zone, a federal designation that benefits persistently challenged counties in the federal grant process.  The next class on May 9 is an Entrepreneurial Boot Camp.  (Note:  This class is full.) Hampton shipper to invest $7 million in Yemassee

R+L Carriers, a global logistics and shipping company, is expanding its current footprint in Hampton County, according to SouthernCarolina Alliance, lead organization for the SC. Promise Zone. To accommodate its continued growth, the company will be investing $7 million in the project, which will create 25 new jobs. and allow the company to build a new distribution terminal in Yemassee.

Hampton agency gets $8.3 million for wastewater projects

SEPT. 17, 2015 — Lowcountry Regional Water System is the first recipient of a multimillion dollar grant package through the new South Carolina Lowcountry Promise Zone, officials announced today.

A $1,864,000 grant and $6,480,000 loan through the U.S. Department of Agriculture will allow the Hampton County-based water and sewer agency to make improvements that will expand sewerage capacity, which will make the county more attractive for economic development, said Brian Burgess, general manager of Lowcountry Regional Water System. The project also will allow the agency to rehabilitate sewer lines in Hampton, upgrade the agency’s water meter system throughout the county, and paint and repair water towers in Yemassee and Gifford.
